  Abstract:
The Standard Model (SM) is the current theory that describes the field of particle physics, and despite being the most accurate theoretical framework present to this day, there is still much that it still cannot fully describe. An example are the so called \textit{flavor anomalies}, which can prove to be an effective deviation from the SM and could introduce new physics beyond the standard model. One way to probe this issue is to study rare decays involving the b-quark, such as the $B^0 \to K^{*0}\mu^+\mu^-$ decay. This paper focuses on the analysis of the LHC run2 data collected by the CMS experiments in the years 2016 to 2018 to study this B meson decay. Specifically, the goal is to measure the branching fraction of this decay. This was done by first fitting the invariant mass squared of the $B^0$, computing the efficiencies and finally determining the branching fraction. Furthermore, the analysis was extended to a dedicated (B-parking) dataset collected by CMS to further explore the anomalies
